This is a thread for exchanging creative ideas for trade and markets in New Eden. If you have an idea that has been in your head for some time but have never been able to apply or discuss it before then this is the thread for you!
You may win a 100 million isk prize for your idea if it is both original and potentially useful. If you are a new trader or have little isk, post up your idea here and you may receive enough seed capital to get your idea off the ground!
Your idea may be a trading method, a way of analysing markets, a theory, a new way of using skills or assets - anything at all! Just be as creative and innovative as you can.
Innovative Trading and Business Ideas
This thread is a prize fund for creative innovation and new business concepts in New Eden. It consists of 10 prizes of 100 million isk each, which will be handed out to posters who place original concepts and business ideas on this thread.
The prize is aimed at all readers of the forum from brand new to established veteran. It's purpose is to encourage discussion and to finance our most original and creative sources of talent.
If you have an original and creative idea that you have either tried out or have simply thought about but never put down on paper, post it up here and let us see what you've got!
Rules
1. Entries must be at least 100 words long and should be written in good English.
2. Entries must be divided into 3 sections -
a) Introduction - Summary of who you are and what you do in New Eden
b) The concept - description of your original idea or method, the inspiration behind it, its benefits
c) Application - either a real or hypothetical example or description of how your idea works in practise - ie demonstrate that it is workable and how
3. Ideas must all be trade and market related
4. I will be the final judge on prize allocation. If others like your concept, they are free to award you a prize or investment if they wish - but all such must be publicly posted in the thread to prevent multiple payments/scam attempts
5. Ten prizes will be handed out over the course of the next 30 days. I may then renew the fund depending on the success of this first thread.
Remember - you can use this thread to present yourself and your idea in the best possible light - well written entries will be greatly appreciated

Pinkfish - thanks for posting - the fundamental concept is solid and I like it. It adds a facet to any potential banking or futures/options system that may be set up in the future, and could be used to help a trading federation coordinate actions between members. Prize sent
Prize list
1. Pinkfish - Futures & Banking: Stockpile leasing

Primeara - would have been a great idea except that it has been tried before and was used by Bad Bobby for a large scam
This following discussion:
Originally by: Machete Visor I've worked a lot of with correlation irl, and it is definately not something to assume or take for granted. As a theory, it is a great idea.... but finding negatively correlated asset classes that maintain that relationship is a real feat. We tried it with loans, mortgages, equities, bonds, etc etc.... nothing helped in 2008. All correlations approached 1. What you are looking for is -1... or even better.... 0.
and
Originally by: caldariftw123 In a small sense you can count on tanking types to be inversely correlated. The FOTM being shield ganky arty missile boats like Maelstroms and Drakes is putting armour tanking out of business (exagerration but you get the idea) .. Think a little outside the box here and invest equal NAV into LSE/shield rigs and 1600/armour rigs. There are only 2 real type of tanks in EVE for major PVP and that is armour and shield buffer. There are other pairs like this you can look into.
This wont protect you 100% as there is not an exact correlation between price increase/decrease between the modules, perhaps as % they are more closely related though and so your NAV wont be negatively affected too badly?
This was a very interesting discussion and could work as a stand-alone market trading strategy or as a basis for acquiring and loaning stockpiles or other financial instruments. Awarding a shared prize for the concept. Prizes also allocated to Cleansing Spite for his positional goods selling strategy and to Zelda Wei for the floating buy order defensive tactic.
Prize list
1. Pinkfish - Futures & Banking: Stockpile leasing 2. Machete Visor & Caldariftw123 - Trading & Markets: Inversely Correlated Pairs 3. Cleansing Spite - Trading & Markets: Positional Goods Strategy 4. Zelda Wei - Trading & Markets: Floating Buy Order

Two more prizes go to Aranel Fuin and Nefariel Vash for their business concepts. Both ideas contain original solutions to two common problems - Aranel's two-tier alternative for commodity trading through contracts, and Nefariel's concept of a dedicated access team for mass-trading in zero sec.
@Jarimus, your thinking is largely correct but is already widely understood and practised.

Thanks to Flexil and B Nabs for your very well-written posts.
Flexil I really like your idea of an investment banker/broker and I hope you start it up one day. Banking is not currently popular due to the Ebank fiasco and other banking failures.
The scam risks you would be exposed to would be all those that a normal investor or bank would be exposed to - those are too many to go into here. If you emphasised the brokerage side of the investment you would minimise those risks significantly.
B Nabs, I've been thinking about the same area so I was glad you posted. Having futures delivered through courier contracts didn't occur to me so thanks for that concept. I've added you both to the prize list.
Prize list
7. Flexil - Investment & Banking: Investment Bank/Brokerage 8. B Nabs - Futures & Options: Courier Futures

Sorry I should have highlighted the specific concept -
Originally by: Flexil Bank manager would work by searching reliable corporations to invest in and then sell them out as bonds in smaller portions so even beginners might take a part in investing as what I've noticed that many stocks/bonds have really high entry-level (100mil isk or so).
This element is new and is why I awarded the prize. My bad for not being more specific, it was in my head but I should have written down my reasons.

Egola, thanks for an interesting entry. Auctions are something I've been thinking about lately as I'm vaguely considering using one for my next bond issue in March.
Unfortunately the example you used does not represent a useful employment of capital for the purposes of trade or market-based investments. I am unable to see any practical trade application for your concept in its current form and so I have not issued a prize this time around.

Originally by: egola ah yes i understand that there is no actual Growth in invested amount due to it's nature but the application of this could cover banks and people that can't pay back loans otherwise to prevent defaults.
I agree that it's of use. I'm not so sure how it could be used to prevent a loan default [or do you mean to cover against such a default?].
Is this mechanism of use in maximising funds raised from a bond or share issue? If you can provide a feasible example of its application to a market-based business then I will be happy to award a prize.

Bolsterbomb, insuring rigs is a great idea and your fundamentals are all solid. There have been several discussions in MD about insurance before, but no-one actually went out and started a company.
Awarding you a prize for suggesting rig insurance, and in the hope that you will follow through on this great idea.
Prize list
9. Bolsterbomb - Financial Services: Rig insurance

Originally by: BolsterBomb Liberty, I have several pieces in place to do this. Is this your in game name as well. I may send you mail getting this together, specifics need to be nailed down.
Yes, please go ahead and evemail me. In the middle of last year I thought about doing this but didn't have the time with my trading, and then my computer broke
If you are really thinking of doing this then my main advice to you would be: i) Keep it as simple as possible - as in, really, really simple ii) Find ways to minimise the workload involved [insurance has a habit of spawning paperwork, which is no fun in a game] iii) Expect to take a loss in your first few months as no-one has done this before or ironed-out weak points

Egola, thanks for going over your example in more depth.
As I understand it, an appropriate analogy for your entry is that we all get together and bake a cake, then find ways to divide the cake up so that some get a larger slice than they put in, while others get a smaller slice.
If I'm correct, this means that there will be no actual wealth creation - the system being essentially some kind of wealth redistribution scheme. Over the time period that the scheme is in place, there will presumably be an opportunity cost because the capital is being kept idle.
I appreciate the time you took to make your entry, however the two elements of i) Not actively creating wealth [keeping capital idle is a sin ] ii) Wealth redistribution :(
Mean that I will have to reject your entry.

Very good idea, but well-known amongst the top traders. I therefore can't award you a prize but I hope you get your billion [yes, it does work].

Travarica, thanks for a great idea! I can also see celebrity endorsements just around the corner
Prize awarded - that is the final prize out of ten for this fund. It's been a very ineteresting thread and I can't wait to run it again in a few weeks. When I'm truly rich I will keep it going permanently as a project in philanthropy.
PS - PH, will respond to your post tonight/tomorrow - have been meaning to do it but haven't had time yet
I will also post up a brief summary of the ideas and prize winners in this thread when I am less busy.
Prize list
10. Travarica - Sales & Advertising - Marketing Profession

@Primaera - the weak point is, as you say, if someone manages to get 50% of the shares. This can be achieved by putting alts into position or by a conspiracy.
For small-scale offerings this may be worthwhile, however it is not secure enough to guarantee large assets. To my knowledge, CCP have provided no tools to players who actually wish to invest securely.
@ Nefariel Vash - I'd be interested in participating in the occasional zero-sec trading op, are you planning to run from anything from Jita?
Originally by: lederstrumpf Is there some serious 24/7 on demand strike force Macro Miner Ganking Corp?
Like "request a ship to be ganked in system XYZ within 1 hour, successful ganker gets reward of ABC ISK".
I see a market.
This is not a trade or market related idea, besides which the prize fund has all been paid out. It also attacks private property rights so it probably belongs in a communist thread somewhere rather than one seeking to improve in-game capitalism.
